About the beans:
Monte Carmelo is made up of 3 producers:
Rio Brilhante Café Farm made up of 1,622 hectares run by the 67 year old Inácio Carlos Urban.
Retiro Farm run by Amélia Maria da Silva with 15 hectares of cultivated area at 1,155 Masl altitude.
Esmeril Ipanema Farm run by the 69 years old, Antônio Custódio Faria with 78 hectares.
All three producers are motivated for coffee to continue to provide their families a better quality of life.
Coffee was first cultivated in the Cerrado Mineiro in the 1970s by farmers from Parana and São Paulo. Through a technique that corrects soil acidity (liming) and irrigation, large-scale cultivation has become possible.
The Cerrado Mineiro presents a dry climate during the harvest period, which causes the coffee to suffer less from humidity after harvesting, allowing for a consistent drying process.
